Leading By Example: President, First Lady Cast Votes as Somalia Makes Democratic History

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Qamar Ali Omar, cast their votes today at the National Theatre polling station, where the direct elections for the Banadir Regional District Councils were taking place.

The President and the First Lady met with hundreds of citizens who were casting their ballots, demonstrating their civic responsibility and commitment to building a government based on the will of the people.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud commended the smooth conduct of the elections, the security arrangements, and the well-organized efforts of civil society organizations that made it possible for residents of the capital to freely cast their votes.
