The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Federal Republic of Somalia (FRS) today officially launched a joint company named SOMTURK in Mogadishu. The company has been jointly established by the Ministry and the international company OYAK.
The new company, SOMTURK, aims to develop marine resource production, promote the blue economy, and protect Somalia’s coastal natural resources. It will also play a key role in strengthening the management of marine resources and combating illegal fishing, which negatively impacts the country’s economy and environment.
The launch ceremony was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Jibril Abdirashid, who highlighted the importance of such partnerships, describing it as a strategic step toward advancing the country’s economy and ensuring the sustainable utilization of marine resources.
Mr. Ahmed Hassan Aden, the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, also addressed the event, stating that the company is part of the Ministry’s broader plan to develop the fisheries sector and increase revenue generated from marine resources. The Minister also officially issued the company’s first license, marking the beginning of SOMTURK’s operations.
