Somali Immigration Agency Announces New Passport Plan for 2026

The Somali Immigration and Nationality Agency has announced an ambitious plan to introduce a new national passport in 2026, which will replace the current one used by citizens.

The announcement came as the Director General of the Agency, Mustafa Dhuxulow, presented the agency’s 2025 annual performance report during a high-level event held in Mogadishu under the theme: “Secure Borders, Safe Somalia.”

The report highlighted significant progress in strengthening border security, modernizing immigration services, and transitioning to a digital system built on transparency, accountability, and quality service delivery.

It also detailed legal and institutional reforms that are aligned with the Agency’s Strategic Plan for 2025–2029.

According to the data presented, the agency successfully implemented the Electronic Travel Authorization System (e-TAS) in 2025 and upgraded the Somali passport to meet the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
