The Commissioner of the Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, welcomed the leaders and guests attending the Somalia Humanitarian Forum (CHF), which opened in Mogadishu. He called for the country to move beyond emergency response to crises and shift toward plans focused on prevention and building sustainable resilience.
The SoDMA Commissioner stated that Somalia continues to face recurring droughts and floods that severely affect the lives of its people, with millions suffering from food shortages and malnutrition. He emphasized that the government is prioritizing strengthening institutional coordination, early prevention and rapid warning systems, as well as cooperation with partners.
The conference is attended by officials from the Federal Government and Federal Member States, representatives from United Nations (UN) agencies, ambassadors and donors, local and international NGOs, the business community (Chamber of Commerce), civil society, universities, the diaspora, and experts with extensive knowledge and experience in addressing the country’s drought challenges.
