Dr. Muungaab Launches Landmark Warta Siigaale Water Project to Tackle Flooding in Mogadishu.

Governor of Banaadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), officially inaugurated the strategic Warta Siigaale water catchment project on Thursday. The project had originally been launched in late August 2025.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several officials, including the Deputy Governor for Public Works, Mr. Abdimaajid Dahir Adan, the Secretary General of the Banaadir Regional Administration, Ms. Bilan Bile Mahmoud, the Hodan District administration, and other senior officials from the Mogadishu Municipality.

“Today, we are launching a strategic project that will play a vital role in protecting the lives and property of the residents of the capital, particularly during rainy seasons and flooding. Warta Siigaale directly serves seven districts, and the implementation of this project is a clear step toward strengthening safety and improving the living conditions of the community,” said Dr. Muungaab.

The Warta Siigaale water catchment system holds special importance, as it collects water from seven districts within the Banaadir region. The project was implemented by the Mogadishu Municipality in partnership with international stakeholders to strengthen essential public service infrastructure.

On the other hand, plans are underway to promptly begin the second phase of the project, which will focus on improving the surrounding environment. This includes general cleaning, beautification, and tree planting to ensure environmental sustainability, as Dr. Muungaab concluded:

“This project does not end here; we will continue with its next phase in a planned manner to expand services and ensure sustainable development that benefits all residents of the Banaadir region.”
