National Communications Authority Launches Cybersecurity Training Program.

Mogadishu, Somalia – March 29, 2026 — The Director General of the National Communications Authority, Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, has launched a training program aimed at equipping government employees with knowledge and internationally recognized certifications in cybersecurity.

The program focuses on preparing ICT experts within government institutions to obtain global certifications, thereby enhancing their capacity to protect national data and counter the growing threats of cyber risks, attacks, and online crime.

Speaking at the launch, the Director General stated:

“This training is part of the National Communications Authority’s efforts to strengthen the protection of the country’s digital infrastructure, ensure data security, and address the increasing threats of cyberattacks and online crime. The program will also contribute to building the capacity of government staff to safeguard national digital systems and services.”

The Director General also advised participants to fully take advantage of this opportunity and apply the knowledge gained to advance digital security.

The cybersecurity trainings include international courses and certifications such as:

  • CompTIA Security+
  • Certified Incident Handler – EC Council
  • Cloud Security Essentials – GIAC
  • ISMS (ISO/IEC 27001:2022) Lead Auditor
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) – ISACA
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) – ISC2

The trainings will be conducted in Mogadishu, online (virtual), and in Nairobi, from March 28 to May 8, 2026.

The National Communications Authority had previously informed government institutions to nominate staff who hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related fields.

Additionally, candidates are required to have at least two (2) years of experience or be working in System Administration or Network Administration.

To ensure quality and program progress, only participants who pass course examinations will proceed to the next levels of certification.

This training program is supported by the World Bank Group through the SCALED-UP project and is facilitated by the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI). The initiative strengthens efforts to build national cybersecurity capacity and develop highly skilled government professionals.
