Somalia–Turkey Delegation Opens Key Liberated Bridge in Lower Shabelle

A high-level joint delegation from the governments of Somalia and Turkey today visited frontline areas in the ongoing liberation campaign, particularly in the Lower Shabelle region where major operations are underway.

The delegation included Somalia’s Ministers of Defence and Interior, senior leaders of the Somali National Army, AUSSOM officials, and representatives from the Turkish Embassy. They travelled to the recently secured areas of Sabiid and Anole.

During the visit, the officials jointly inaugurated the newly restored Sabiid–Anole bridge, a vital crossing rehabilitated with support from the Turkish government. The bridge, now fully repaired, plays a critical role in the movement of people, goods, and vehicles across the area.

Officials noted that reopening the bridge will strengthen local trade, improve security, and enhance community connectivity. They also pledged further development projects across the wider Lower Shabelle region.

“We are pleased to reopen the Sabiid–Anole Bridge six months later, having defeated the enemy that once controlled this area,” said Sahal Abdullahi Omar, Commander of the Somali National Army’s Land Forces.

The bridge had previously been destroyed by Al-Shabaab when the group held the surrounding areas, but it has now been fully reclaimed and restored.
