On 15 February 2026, the Hormuud Salaam Foundation reaffirmed its enduring commitment to social welfare by donating $25,000 to the Guryosamo Family Development Center. The funding will support the marriage and employment of five families of young people with special needs, offering not only financial assistance but also dignity, stability, and renewed hope.
This initiative reflects a pattern that has defined the Foundation’s work for more than a decade: consistent, community-centered action aimed at uplifting vulnerable populations and expanding real opportunities for those often left behind. From education and healthcare to emergency relief during floods, droughts, and market fires, the Foundation has built a reputation as a dependable humanitarian partner across Somalia.
Chairman Abdullahi Nur Osman emphasized that people living with special needs continue to face deep structural barriers that limit access to schooling, employment, and family life.
“We have donated $25,000 to facilitate marriages and create employment opportunities for five families of persons with special needs. This forms part of Guryosamo’s mass marriage program, which strengthens families and supports social development. Many individuals with special needs in our country live under extremely difficult conditions, struggling to pursue education, secure employment, or build families.”
For communities where disability often intersects with poverty and social exclusion, such interventions are transformative. They do more than meet immediate needs; they reshape expectations about inclusion, participation, and human dignity.
Chairman Ahmed Abshir Gedi described the moment as both meaningful and symbolic, noting that this is the second time the Foundation has supported the program.
“Today is a great joy for us to receive $25,000 from Hormuud Salaam Foundation, once again contributing to the collective marriage and job-creation program for Somali youth with special needs. We sincerely appreciate the Foundation’s nationwide humanitarian efforts. May God reward them abundantly and bless their good work.”
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Ahmed Hassan Dige highlighted the emotional impact of the initiative.
“Hormuud Salaam Foundation truly stands with its people. Its contribution to the collective marriage program is deeply valuable, especially because it pioneers support for an initiative that previously lacked such backing. Of the 15 families planned for support this year, the Foundation’s funding has enabled the first five marriages, an achievement that brings real happiness to persons with disabilities.”
Government representatives echoed this appreciation. Faduma Mohamed Ali, Advisor to the Ministry of Family and Human Rights, praised the Foundation’s consistent leadership in humanitarian response.
“We are here to witness support benefiting five families through wedding assistance and livelihood opportunities. This is not the first time the Foundation has contributed to such programs. I sincerely thank them for their continuous charitable work and for consistently leading efforts to assist vulnerable communities.”
Strengthening Healthcare and Human Dignity
Just one day later, on 16 February 2026, the Foundation extended its impact to the health sector by donating wheelchairs to Rajab Dayib Erdogan Hospital, formerly Digfeer Hospital, improving mobility and care for elderly patients and persons with disabilities.
This gesture forms part of a broader, sustained investment in Somalia’s healthcare infrastructure, where access to essential equipment can dramatically shape patient outcomes and hospital efficiency.
Hospital Director Mohamed Hussein Ashraf welcomed the support: “These wheelchairs will significantly improve patient mobility and enhance the quality of services we provide. Hormuud Salaam Foundation consistently demonstrates a commitment to supporting Somali patients in need. We assure that this equipment will be used responsibly to serve our community.”
Chairman Abdullahi Nur Osman noted that the hospital serves one of the country’s largest and most diverse patient populations.
“Many who come here cannot walk, are elderly, or live with serious health conditions. In sharing the hospital’s burden, we hope this donation will ease some of the challenges faced in caring for patients.”
A Nationwide Humanitarian Footprint
While February’s activities highlight targeted interventions, they represent only a fraction of the Foundation’s wider humanitarian reach. Since its establishment in 2013, Hormuud Salaam Foundation has delivered education scholarships, hospital support, Ramadan iftar programs, emergency disaster relief, firefighter assistance during urban market blazes, and aid for communities affected by floods and droughts.
These efforts reflect a philosophy rooted in long-term national recovery rather than short-term charity, prioritizing resilience, opportunity, and social cohesion.
Fully funded by Hormuud Telecom and Salaam Somali Bank, the Foundation stands as Somalia’s first corporate philanthropic institution and has grown into the country’s largest private humanitarian organization. Headquartered in Mogadishu, it implements impact-driven programs spanning infrastructure, education, healthcare, and emergency response throughout Somalia.
More importantly, its work reflects a deeper narrative, one in which private sector leadership helps rebuild public trust, restore social safety nets, and reaffirm collective responsibility.
The recent support for families with special needs and the donation of wheelchairs illustrate a defining truth: sustainable development is not achieved through single grand gestures, but through consistent, compassionate presence.
Year after year, crisis after crisis, Hormuud Salaam Foundation has remained visible where help is most needed, quietly restoring livelihoods, strengthening institutions, and reminding communities that they are not alone.
